Speed Limit Changes Will Affect Everyone Driving Into Minneapolis

October 9, 2013

By Sheriff Keith Coleman
A request was made to the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) to lower the speed limit on K-106 (Laurel Street) between Second Avenue and the east city limits from 45 mph to 30 mph. KDOT conducted a speed study in two locations in the city and based on the data collected recommended that the current 45 mph zone be changed to 35 mph.
KDOT has placed an order for the new 35 mph signs and the change will take effect upon their arrival and placement. Both the Minneapolis Police Chief Jon Stowing and I were notified of the change late last week and wanted to make sure that citizens were aware of the speed limit changes. Please keep an eye out for the new signs.
