The MHS boys track team loaded the bus and headed east to compete in the Silver Lake regional last Friday for an opportunity to represent their school and community at the State Track Meet in Wichita. The sun was shining, there was very little wind all day and the facilities were excellent at Silver Lake.
“We took what I thought would compete for a chance to go to state. Everyone did their best for that day. Some expected to do better, which was great, but overall they performed well,” stated Coach Darrow. “The final race was a great way for the Lions to finish off the day. As Coach Darrow remembered it, “Gage got us out to a great start giving us a commanding lead. Josh continued to maintain the lead and Gavin did a great job on the third leg and then it was Matt on the final leg. Beloit was running second and their anchor was the kid who had won the open 400. I was a little nervous. Matt maintained for the first 300 meters but then the Beloit kid made his move. As Matt came down the home stretch he shifted into another gear and held him off to help give us a first place finish.”
The top four placers move on to compete at the State meet.
