LionBackers Want You!

August 21, 2013

The LionBacker organization will kick off the school year by holding its annual membership drive and by providing the concession stand for the sports scrimmages on Aug. 29. Everyone who purchases a new membership or renews an existing membership during the scrimmage will receive a complimentary meal ticket and can purchase additional meal tickets for immediate family members. This year’s menu items include hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, and chips. LionBackers is seeking donations of hamburger and hot dog buns, hamburger patties, hot dogs, baked beans, chips and cheese slices. Anyone interested in making a donation or volunteering to help at the stand, can call Traci Thompson at 785-448-4123 or Andrea Roth at 785-392-7517.
The LionBacker organization supports MJSHS by providing financial assistance for athletic and educational needs that fall outside of the school budget. This is made possible through LionBacker memberships and donations. Last year LionBackers completed several projects such as new gym seating for the athletic team players, new cushioned wall mats for the gym, new banner flags for the football field stadium and repositioning and repainting the Lion at the football field.
Through the years, LionBackers have presented plaques to graduating seniors and given welcome-back-to-school bags to every junior high and high school student. Other projects have included a youth basketball tournament, assisting with the school grounds landscaping, donating funds for the library to obtain Kindle readers, providing a tent for the track, providing mirrors for the weight room, and providing theatre etiquette signs outside the auditorium.
Members who are parents of MJSHS students are invited to attend the LionBackers meetings held at 7 p.m. the first Monday of each month in the MJSHS library. For more information on becoming a member e-mail
